Tinnitus Evaluations:

It is often necessary for patients who have tinnitus (i.e., ringing in the ears) to undergo a comprehensive tinnitus evaluation that includes pitch matching, loudness matching, loudness discomfort levels, and residual inhibition. The information obtained from the tinnitus and comprehensive hearing evaluations lends perspective about the most appropriate treatment options for the patient. In the past, many patients have been told there is nothing that can be done about the ringing in their ears, but there is a new treatment that is non-invasive and has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Cornerstone Audiology is proud to offer this as part of our provided services. Visit www.neuromonics.com for more information.

ReSound Live 9 TS:

Another possible solution for tinnitus is the ReSound Live 9 TS, a combination hearing instrument that provides relief from tinnitus (i.e., ringing in the ears). The sound generator in the Live 9 TS delivers a broadband and/or narrowband stimulus to allow relief from tinnitus. The bandwidth and the volume of the noise can be manipulated by the audiologist for maximum comfort and relief for the patient. The ReSound Live 9 TS automatically switches between the hearing aid and the sound generator, depending on the patient’s environment. In quiet environments, the loudness of the sound generator increases, compensating for the lack of noise in your environment preventing one from focusing on the tinnitus. However, when listening to conversation, the loudness of the sound generator decreases to allow maximum audibility and intelligibility. This is often times a great option because we can help with both the hearing loss and the tinnitus in a single device.
